Wool Dryer Balls
Wool Dryer Balls
Made by hand right here at the mill, these reusable wool balls leave load after load of laundry feeling soft and fresh, replacing the need for dryer sheets and fabric softeners. Their absorbent, softening qualities last and last, so you can keep using them for years to come. Just toss them in the dryer with your clothes like you would a disposable dryer sheet, but without any of the chemicals or waste. We recommend at least three dryer balls for a normal load of laundry. Each dryer ball will last for over 1,000 loads of laundry, and every dryer ball you add will shorten your drying process, saving you energy and time. For a fun bonus, add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to your dryer balls before a load of laundry to give your clothes a signature scent and so that you get to feel like a laundry alchemist!
You can purchase all white or colored dryer balls. Each colored dryer ball is unique, and made from scrap yarn and leftover fiber from the yarn spinning process.
Essential Oils and Wool Dryer Balls
Dryer balls work in your laundry without essential oils, but many people find that adding a few drops of essential oils to your dryer balls before your laundry goes in the dryer is a great way to give your clothing an uplifting scent, as well as making the laundry experience more fun.
Our favorite essential oils to add to our wool dryer balls are lavender, balsam fir, and eucalyptus. Since essential oils have different effects on our mood and health, we like to change up the essential oil based on what we are washing.
This oil is great for sheets, duvet covers, blankets, and pajamas. We love using this scent with these types of laundry because of the sheer bliss of slipping into a freshly made bed and letting that lavender scent carry you off into sleep.
This is a favorite for wash cloths, towels, and any other bathroom linens. It gives the distinct feeling that you have just spent the day in the spa, and tends to compliment most soaps and shampoos so that every shower feels like a luxury experience.
Both invigorating and calming at the same time, Balsam Fir is the perfect essential oil for every day clothes, gym clothes, and works well on bed linens too.
Before you toss the dryer balls into the dryer with your load of laundry, pick your essential oil and drop anywhere from 4 - 10 drops on each ball. You can pick different complementary scents for each ball, or just scent one ball per load. Stronger scents will last for a few cycles! If you accidentally add a little too much to one of your dryer balls, we suggest running that ball through a load with some towels or other fabrics that won't show if a little oil gets on them. You can also just leave the dryer ball out in the open air for a few hours to let the oil absorb deeper into the ball.
Organic essential oils can be found in grocery stores, health food stores, specialty shops, and online.
